Why I Believe in “Treat Yo’Self”

Yikes, Lindsey sure buys herself a lot of stuff….It’s true, I do. I would consider shopping to be one of my favorite things. And I wanted to tell you a little bit why I believe in the motto “treat yo’ self”. And also show off some of my favorites lately.

I realized that some of you may think I spend too much money on myself. And I don’t want you thinking I am a brat or that I’m materialistic, or shallow, or any of that. Yucky, that would suck! I do want you all to know that I try to treat myself when I can. Because I work really hard and these purchases bring me joy.

Now there will always be 2 sides of the coin right? There will be the people that preach, YASSSS GIRL, TREAT YO’SELF, BUY ALL THE THINGS and then there are those that will say, money doesn’t buy happiness, things are just things, and don’t collect too much stuff because then someone else will have to find a place for it when you’re dead. I get it. I really do. Both points/sides are valid. I would consider myself to be somewhere towards the middle of the spectrum.

The things I choose to buy aren’t just for show, or to be considered cool. I buy them for purpose or meaning, or because they truly do make my heart happier. I think it’s important to find a balance in your life. I’ve known so many people that haven’t bought a nice thing for themselves in years, and then I know some that literally can’t say no. My thing is, what is life if you aren’t enjoying it? Like for us, we don’t really ever go out. I’ll be the first to admit that we don’t have a lot of friends in the area. Our closest friends are at least an hour away, so we spend a lot of time at home. If we were going out every weekend, buying drinks and fancy dinners, then I would consider that my “enjoyment” in life.

But truthfully, I am home almost 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In 2018, I would love to make goals to meet up with local makers. I think it’s helpful to bond with similar minded people, pick their brains a little and just vent about the daily grind of small business ownership with people in the same boat. (I am getting totally off topic here). Let’s try to get back to the blog topic, shall we? So anyways, because I don’t really have that frequent social interaction, I like to spice things up with buying myself a few new necklaces, or a new lipstick every now and then. Something to make each day, less repetitive.

As I type this, all that keeps flooding through my brain is that some people are going to disagree with me. And THAT IS OKAY. What fun would this world be if we were all the day? I mean seriously…lame. So feel free to think differently than me, please do. My hopes in writing this post are to help people understand that sometimes rewarding yourself with an item is OKAY and ENCOURAGED. All within financial reason of course ;). And especially after completion of Q4 or Holiday Season for us makers!

Okay, now let’s look at the fun stuff I got!

If you’ve been following along on instagram, you may have noticed that I talk about Made By Mary a lot. I promise you they are not paying me haha. I just LOVE LOVE LOVE their pieces. They are dainty and refined. And truthfully, when I wear them, I feel more beautiful. Which is helpful when you only shower once every 3 days and never wear clothes other than leggings and oversized sweaters. You can customize them or buy them blank for a timeless look. I now own 7 of her pieces. My favorite piece is my Nova Disc necklace. It says, strong, fierce & brave on the 3 varying sized discs. Every time I wear it, I feel empowered and ready to tackle the world!

Some more of my recent pieces! The Mini Zola and the Skinny Vertical Bar!

Next up are my new blush pink chucks by Converse! Last night, Brandon and I were strolling through Nordstrom and I looked over at the shoe display, and to my delightful surprise, these babies caught my eye. I don’t wear sneakers all that often, in fact, never really, but I want to try and wear them more. I bought a custom pair of Converse back in 2010 and I got them way too big, so I think I’ve only worn them once. So this purchase was a no brainer! I asked to try them on and, yep, they needed to be mine. And the funniest part, they came out yesterday. Soooo, it was meant to be :). I loooovvvvveeee them.

Ya’ll know how often I run to the Post Office every week. It’s a normal occasion…so why not have an epic bag to take my packages in? I’m sure you’ve heard of her bags, and let me just inform you and they are AS GOOD AS THEY LOOK. I ordered my first Forestbound canvas bag and no joke, Alice had my package in the mail like 20 minutes later. Epic experience overall! I haven’t used it yet, but man it’s beautiful and I can’t wait to take it for a test run next week!

When you walk past a blush pink coffee mug and you do an immediate double take to read what it says. And you discover it says “I’m a lot cooler on the internet”, you buy it. I found this baby at the new Forever 21 affiliate store, Riley Rose! It honestly couldn’t be more true. Brandon always jokes around with me and says, when are you going to become verified with that little blue checkmark? And I always giggle because obviously I’m not that cool. But still, it’s crazy that so many of you want to follow along on my journey!! Enjoyed my coffee in my favorite new cup this morning!
